Howdy folks! Been a spell since the last news post, but things have been mighty slow around these parts the last few months. Don't worry, we haven't given up on version 1.1 but I can't say when it will be released. In the meantime, there are some news-worthy happenings popping up here & there.
*The www.rmrcomic.com contest results are in & we'd like to thank v1 for hosting such a nice event. Head on over to this page for the lowdown on who won all of those neat prizes!
*Spanish_Broomaker put together a couple of gameplay videos, with commentary, in an effort to help new players understand what the game is like when you play online. Check them out here!
*For you server admins out there, BigBrotherBot (aka B3) has released a new version of their gaming administration tool which now includes beta support for Smokin' Guns. Here's the skinny from their website:
Smokin' Guns parser :
•added smg11 beta parser which is intended to work with the future Smokin' Guns 1.1 release. (Note that this is still a work in progress and it has been included in this B3 release as a preview.)
Forum poster Freelander also tells us that xrlstats, a statistics plugin for B3, is also getting some SG lovin' with the next release. For more links & info click here.
*The FAIL Clan is celebrating their 1st anniversary by holding a tournament that's open to all team players. For rules, signups, & other info click here.
*LuckyGenDago (aka .45 x zIu) has set up a new 50 slot TeamSpeak 3 server, with support for SG clans. See this thread for more info.
*For all of you level editors out there, Pardner put together a nice video tutorial that shows you how to set up GTK Radiant 1.4 & a few other tools. Check it out & create your own SG maps!
*A gunslingser by the name of Steve has been pretty busy lately. He put together a Net Radiant package that you can download if you'd rather try that out as opposed to GTK Radiant. No tutorial for it yet, but the readme has some info.
It's been awhile since an experienced mapper has drifted into town & Steve has also been posting some pretty sweet screenshots of his work in progress that he calls Outpost. Check out our pic-o-the-week for a tasty scene! You can also download a "preview" version of Outpost here. Have a look around & be sure to give Steve some feedback pilgrims.
*A few budding mappers have also been posting their works on the forums recently & would certainly like to have feedback too. !NuB!Donut has a map pack available here & Hideous is working on Desert Blood here.
*This just in, Pardner has released a beta version of his new map Lago. Get the map, loads of screenshots, and other information here. Only the deathmatch version is up for testing, but a BR version is in the works. Check out this promo vid Pardner put together.
That's about it for this news post. As always, everyone let me know if I forgot anything important & I'll add it to the news... pronto.

Howdy folks! Sorry for not having a news post for such a long time. Between real life & spring time activities, seems SG development has slacked off a bit. Tequila is ready for a 1.1b5 test, but I asked him to hold off in the hopes that we'd have a little something extra to add in the way of revised or new maps. Unfortunately, not much of that has happened amongst the dev team mappers so far although there are some works in progress. (I'm to blame as much or more than anyone... dang it.)
However, I do have some news to report. First off a big ol' YEE-HAW is in order for Pardner & his new bride! That's right, there is a Mrs. Pardner now! Swing by this forum thread if you'd like to offer congratulations. Yippee-kai-yay Pard!
Seems there is a Smokin' Guns contest that's taking place!? I grabbed this news snippet from IRC. (Lucky I was idling there at the time. Otherwise, this might have been missed. Post stuff like this in our forum amigos!)
[13:57] <v1__> if any of you are interested, and you don't already know, rmrcomic.com is holding a SG contest, the rules are on the site, or you can ask me (aka Jacob [in the game])
[13:57] <v1__> it's going all month.
Looks like they're rewarding some pretty cool prizes to the winners! Several different style t-shirts, shoes & a skateboard! Check it out here & muchas gracias to rmrcomic.com for such a nice contest! Head over to their server for a chance to win! Here's a photo of one of many prizes up for grabs.
Torhu has released an update for his independant SG (& other Q3 based games) server browser. Read about it here. It's a highy recommended download for Windows users & many of us here use it daily to check server activity. Plus, it's a very quick way to find rmrcomic.com's server!
I have upgraded our TeamSpeak server to the new TeamSpeak3.
!NuB!Donut has posted screenshots & a download to a first attempt, with assistance from !NuB!Muffin, at a new SG Level. I'm sure they would appreciate it if you gunslingers would give this map a try & post feedback here. Always good to see new folks trying their hand at level design & we should all encourage new mappers to keep at it.
Joe Kari has posted a new tutorial for making map models that will surely come in handy. Plus, the tool that he explains how to use is free for download!
Please forgive me if I've forgotten anything. Reply here if I have, so I can add any further newsworthy notes.
So what's the outlook right now? Version 1.1b5 will be next... hopefully with something in the way of a new, official map. But I don't want Tequila to wait forever, so we'll release something soon whether we can do that or not. It's so hard to sit behind a pc when spring is in the air.

| Nominated for awards! XFire Support! Oh my! |

2009 was a great year for Smokin' Guns, and to be nominated for MODDB's best independant game of the year was truely an honor! Even if SG didn't win, it's quite a compliment to be included in this category by the editors over at Mod Database. Thanks MODDB!
My hat is off to all of our talented staff here at Smokin' Guns & to the previous team, Iron Claw Interactive. I honestly never thought this western shooter would attract so much attention when we started working for it 5 years ago. Oh, and muchas gracias to the loyal fans! Without all of you gunslingers SG wouldn't amount to much.
In case any beta testers missed it in the forum, Joe Kari released an updated version of his Alamo level with many new enhancements. You can simply connect to one of the beta test servers with autodownloads enabled to get the files, or grab it from our addon section at MODDB.
We hope to release an official SG version 1.1 fairly soon, but there's always a possibility we might have one more beta test first. For instance, I know of a map or two that are getting some changes that should require testing. We'll have to wait & see.
Hey look! Smokin' Guns is now officially supported in XFire! Get it today!

Lastly, EvilFutsin is looking for volunteers to help him make a new SG movie! He wants this to be a short video that will hopefully be filmed in one day. If you're not quite sure what this is all about, have a look at this flick entitled The Final Gunfight that was filmed in Western Quake 3 about 6 years ago.

SG BETA 1.1b4
That's right folks, the latest and greatest beta is out! Get your beta information here in this thread. What is changed in the new beta you might ask? A lot of those annoying bugs you run into online have been squashed.
Map bugs have been fixed; Check out this thread for a list of map bugs. Remember, if you see a map bug while playing, be sure to take a screenshot and post about it.
Code fixes are also in store. You can get all your code change headlines over at the SourceForge project page. Be sure to visit the timeline, view the active bug tickets, and create a new bug ticket (login required) if you see something that needs to be changed.
**Windows users**there was an error in the default smokinguns.exe that was posted this morning. If you downloaded a package earlier today, you may need to download a new executable. The current package is fixed. Please see this thread for more information.
br_clayborn version 2
If you remember the last news post, our good friend Plates released a beta version of his map "br_clayborn." He has updated the level and added a few items. You can get information here in this thread. Also, his map has been uploaded to the Moddb addons and is now on the 1.1b4 testing servers. Now you can play it with all your online friends and report back with your comments.
1day Cup 24 January
mLy! and the folks over at sg-wars are putting on a one day cup on January 24. I hear that they are looking for one more team to complete their roster. So grab your team of three and get ready to slap iron.
Future maps
A while back, the SG team started making a new duel map. The project was put on hold due to the 1.1 betas. With the betas going smoothly, the project is back on the table. You can follow its progress here in this thread. And of course, the project still includes ReD_NeCKersoN's beautiful waterfall section, enjoy:

Howdy folks! While we wait for v1.1b4, which is our next planned test release coming soon, there are a few things worth mentioning.
Some of you may remember Leon Kilean? He did several background models, textures, & did some major work on the new skins for SG's player models. So it makes us proud to see that such an important contributor for SG is also heavily involved with a great looking HalfLife2 mod called FLESH. Our very own SG dev member EvilFutsin also contributed to FLESH as well. If suspense/horror/puzzle styled games are to your liking, then check out this cool trailer & try the mod!
It seems Smokin' Guns & the Flesh mod are both mentioned in ModDB's "Video Spotlight" for December 2009. Also, the same video serves as their "Year in Review" which showcases many new games & mods for the year. Here's the vid:
In other news: bug fixes, new features & map revisions continue to flow at a good rate. Our next beta release should be an interesting one!
A very nice looking fan map has surfaced by Languid_Plates. He is still working on it in an attempt to make the best bank robbery level that he possibly can. Screenshots & a download are available HERE! Test the map & give him some feedback will ya?
Lastly, don't forget to vote for Smokin' Guns for independant game of the year over at ModDB! Scroll half way down THIS PAGE & click on VOTE!
PS. If you're curious about our current "Pic-of-the-week" you can see more HERE.

| 2009 Indie Game of the Year Awards |

Author: Pardner |
Smokin' Guns 1.0 was released January 1, 2009 & that means it qualifies to run in the 2009 Indie Game if the Year Awards at Moddb. Moddb is a great place to learn about new commercial games, new modifications, and of course independent games like Smokin' Guns. It has served as a way for dev members to upload images, videos, game content, etc for years. SG also gets a lot of new players from the moddb community; so get over there, register if you have to, and vote for Smokin' Guns!

| v1.1b3 Test is Available! |
| Posted: Sat Dec 12, 2009 12:15 am |
Author: ReD NeCKersoN |
Are you the sort of gunslinger that likes to test the latest goodies?
We have a new beta test version available to tickle those itchy trigger fingers! If you'd like to step away from the saloon & those prettty bar-maids for a moment, you can help us test version 1.1b3 by having a look RIGHT HERE!
Our policy is to open the test versions to everyone these days. We only ask that you register on our forum & give us feedback. Help us out will ya?
A veritable buffet of new engine features are on hand (see last months news post for a taste), server admin weapon tweaks to make your mouth water, and even some classic maps make their way back to the battlefield. You might also notice that a few stock levels have received some graphical goodness via high-res-lightmap images. In addition, a few steps have been taken to improve frames-per-second on some of these stomping grounds as well.
Holy-Cow, are you kidding me?!? Not only is SG featured on the MoDDB website, seems we somehow managed to climb to the #3 spot out of 1,329 popular games over there! Is this based on webpage hits? I'm not sure, and it won't last, but YIPPEE-KAI-YAY!
SG also made the front page over at good ol' PLANETQUAKE! Big shout out to Pappy-R!
Stay tuned folks, we hope to release the OFFICIAL version 1.1 of Smokin' Guns in the very near future. Test the beta, give us feedback, and let's all work together for a great new release!
