Remember the Alamo!
Howdy! Joe Kari & Coup' George have been hard at work the last few months learning how to make their own levels. I'm pleased to report that an improved beta version is available for our testers in the SA Tester section of the forum. Check out the 'pic-o-the-week' for a sample of their elaborate work. Additional screenshots can be seen here. I've got to tell you, these budding level designers really went the extra mile for their first try. A lot of custom, high-res textures & models enhance this product tremendously. A new trend for future maps perhaps? Will we see this map released soon? Stay tuned to find out. I'm very impressed you guys! Cool

*Update* Here are few more screens to wet your whistle. There are also several more in the comments section of this news post.

Nothing is as far away as yesterday.
"Change is the constant, the signal for rebirth, the egg of the phoenix." - Christina Baldwin

And so it is with Western Quake 3. Today marks a page in time for new beginnings ... one that eventually leads to rebirth in the form of Smokin' Guns. I am very pleased to announce that our website is now graciously hosted by the almighty Planet. Not only does this relieve some of our financial burdens but also ushers in a new era in the evolution of this game. Uber bandwidth, uber file storage, unbeatable host support & the honor of rubbing elbows with some of the most staunch supporters of the Quake 3 modding community. 'Nuff said.
THANK YOU PLANET NETWORK! Cool

Attention testers: Hika uploaded a new build of the engine just before the site went down (in preparation for the move) a few days ago. In addition, we also have an additional test server thanks to our good friend Tequila. Hit the tester section of the forum for info. YEEHAW!!!

Our IRC Channel has moved
We are moving our irc channel to #smokinguns @ irc.freenode.net
It's already set up & administrated by one of our loyal fans, DMP. I hope all of our irc users will see this & make the switch right away. If you are unfamiliar with irc, it's a chat program that enables you to talk with developers & fans of the game. There's a nice tutorial here by Pardner if you want to try it. You can check the status of our game servers there, challenge other irc users to a game, and get answers to questions pretty quickly. Big thanks to DMP for setting this up & patrolling the channel. Cool

By the way, as the stand alone draws closer I notice that a lot of people are calling the current version of the game "Smokin' Guns" on several websites. Our website url & irc channel have changed in preparation for the transition & I suppose it's not really a big deal if people jump the gun a bit about this. But the truth is, the game that's available right now is Western Quake 3 untill the stand alone is released. Then & only then will it be known as Smokin' Guns. I say this out of respect for the original team who created this outstanding mod for Q3 & gave us permission to improve it. Iron Claw Interactive.

The Final Gunfight (2004)
A film by EvilFutsin originally released in 2004 & made within the Western Quake 3 mod. (Way back in the days of version 2.0) Grab a soda & some popcorn because this flick is about 22 minutes in length. Because the video was made so long ago, you'll notice some "not so pretty" aspects of the mod back then. The game is looking much, much better for the upcoming stand alone release, so please keep that in mind! The main thing to focus on here is EvilFutsins' talent for making movies. Quite an extraordinary undertaking to say the least. Countless hours of filming, retakes, & editing in this "one of a kind" film that took over a year to complete. Kudos to Futsin & everyone who helped bring this story to the big screen! I'm very pleased to re-release EvilFutsin's The Final Gunfight for your viewing pleasure! (You can download the original file here if you want to save it to your hard drive.)

Oh yeah... the team is discussing what needs to be done to get the SA tester package together. Shocked We still have some unfinished items to tackle, but that shouldn't keep us from some much needed testing. I'm not sure how soon we'll have something ready, but testers should keep their eyes open.

BR Tournament Concludes
Thanks to everyone who participated in the bank robbery tournament. There were many tense moments & some great shoot-outs in every match. Congratulations to team "Western-Europa" for gunning their way to victory in a very brutal final match! Joe Kari, Coup' George, StuffStohl & Midge all played exceptionally well. Check the pic-o-the-week for the score of the finals. Good Games Everyone!

Rob the Bank!!!
Blow the bank & steal the gold. Simple right? Think again hombre. Keep yer eyes on the Tourney Page for match times & to see who's playing. Pardner will be updating that page throughout the day as results become available. We've also added some extra channels to our TeamSpeak server for teams that want to use voice communications. Move your team into one of the match channels at game time to enjoy private voice communications in the language your team prefers. (Please speak english in the lobby Wink .) Our TS server IP is 72.37.204.122:8859

Don't forget we also have an IRC channel on #westernq3 @ irc.quakenet.org where you can also get answers to questions quickly. There's an IRC tutorial HERE if you don't know what it is or how to use it.

Good Luck to everyone & remember... have fun! Cool

NOTE: Tequila has his server up & running for folks who want to practice on a server with a similar ping to the game server. You can get the IP HERE.
