Junebugs!
Howdy folks! The outlaws over at SG-WARS are promoting a summer league for Smokin' Guns clans. Have a skilled team? Want some real competition? For a quick preview of what you can expect & who's signed up so far, hit this link.
Are you a Linux user who wants to design new levels for SG? Tequila put together a nice guide to get started.
Speaking of levels, anyone remember The Lake? It didn't quite make it into the 1.0 release but I'm pleased to announce it WILL be included in the next version. Click the image for a larger pic.

Wait a minute... did I just mention a new version of SG? Yes I did! Tequila has finished his work backporting to the IoQ3 engine & is squashing a few remaining bugs now. I'm told an engine test version of 1.1 is coming very soon! Cool

By the way, I'm sure everyone has noticed the poor performance of the website lately. I'm told the server is undergoing a migration. Hopefully everything will clear up.

MAC for MAY!
Thanks to Tequilas' success with backporting our engine to IoQuake3, Sparcdr was able to take the next step for apple lovers. Smokin' Guns now has a mac build available just in time for Cinco de Mayo! (Thanks guys!) Click here for instructions & links. Be sure to tell all of your mac buddies, ok?
Muchas gracias to everyone who participated in the bank robbery tournament on April 25th. I must say there were some very tense rounds this year. Clan mS survived till the end to claim victory, so it's with much congratulations that we announce them to be the winners! A package of demos taken during the tourney should be available soon for your downloading pleasure. In the meantime, I hastily put this video together as a sort of summary for the days events. (Sorry if I didn't capture everyone's favorite action moment, but time wasn't exactly on my side for this.) Hopefully this is an enjoyable video & captures the essence of the tournament.

Pardner also put together a short video that shows the scoreboard for each match. Nice way to see who played too.

SG Tourney Reminder and IOQ3 Progress
As a reminder, the Smokin' Guns Tournament is on April 25th. If you have not signed up, please send me a PM soon. Don't worry if you don't have a team because you may join an existing one, or make one as you find members. Be sure to keep an eye on the Tourney Page and the Tourney Thread for important information.

Also, we should take some time to admire Tequila's recent work on the IOQ3 backport. Be sure to check out this thread if you want some information. So what cool things can you do with IOQ3? Well, thanks to Tequila, here are two videos:

Cool huh? Guess you will have to dig out the 3D glasses and compete in the tournament!

First Mod!
Sorry for the lack of news lately folks. Even cowboys have to eat & to do that you have to work. Unfortunately that means just about all of the dev members haven't had much time for SG lately. However, that doesn't mean we don't have some news for you! First up, Futsin put his talents to work for this weeks film. Here's some gameplay footage of Durango from the public servers. Enjoy!

Are you the type of player that likes to run amuck throwing dynamite or molotovs all over the place causing mayhem? Maybe you think you're pretty skilled with knives? Our friendly forum guru /dev/random has created the first mod we've seen for Smokin' Guns! It's a server side mod which means you don't have to download anything. Just connect to his "Smokin' CPU Server" & give it a try. The only weapons you can buy there are knives, dynamite & molotovs. Shocked Go here for more info or to post feedback.
Hey we're not all asleep at the wheel here! Tequila had this to say on irc today: "I committed the ui mod sources merged with ioQ3 & cgame is merged at 50%"
If you're into code, head on over to our Sourceforge page & have a look around.

Big News
Howdy Folks! We got some big news this week. First, I would like to announce,
Smokin' Guns Tournament 2009

For more information about the tourney and how to sign up; please visit this thread. Not all the details have been sorted out yet, so make sure you post your thoughts and suggestions. Also keep an eye on the SG Tourney page because I will be updating the rules and the ladder brackets as more teams register.

Big news #2: a new Smokin' Guns duel map. This map is work in progress and is being created by all the SG mappers. If you want to follow the map progress, check out this thread. Here are a few screenshots and a wonderful video of Red’s section (note: all sections are still work in progress, and the ETA is still unknown):

We will be continuing the weekly videos next time, but I think Red’s video should count Very Happy Remember, if you have any questions or comments you can post on the forums, message on our IRC channel, or chat on Teamspeak.

This & That
Howdy! Continuing our video series, this week we present a look at some action on the dm_fort level by ICI member Lt. Frag. Are you in the film this time? Only one way to find out!

A high quality version is available in our DOWNLOAD section.

First up in the news this week is www.targetx.nl who would like me to announce that they are forming a european gaming league. Smokin' Guns is on the list & they are offering 2 vs 2 ladder style matches to kick things off. Looks like they already have a few teams signed up & ready to do battle!

I noticed a new game server pop up a few days ago & thought I'd give www.smokin-servers.com a quick plug. Cool name, but they are not affiliated with us & it's just a coincidence. Looks like they have some really good prices. Too bad I already rented my game server elsewhere for a full year or I'd have to give this outfit a shot.

For you mappers out there, Pardner posted a quick tutorial on implementing the various game modes in your levels. Thanks Pard!

Got ideas, questions or comments? Head on over to our FORUM & make yourself at home.

WANTED!
Howdy folks! Make sure you smile when you're playing on the servers. Why you ask? Because you never know when someone is filming! We're going to try to feature a different level each week with actual game footage of YOU playing online. First up is bank robbery mode on Santa Cruz by DeadKennedy.

If you like, you can download a higher quality version of santa_cruz.wmv from our downloads section.

Looks like ==diop created a new 1851 Navy Colt weapon model HERE. Very good looking work there sir! Trouble is, we need an animator! Please post in the thread if you can help. I'd also like to remind everyone that Smokin' Guns could use more contributors in all areas. If you have any game related skills at all please help us improve SG!

For all of you mappers out there, there's an updated level design package in our download section this week. Mapping Toolz v2.1 adds functionality for Zero Radiant which is an alternative to previous versions of GTK Radiant. (Thanks for the tutorial Breli.) A couple of fans are already designing new levels & we'll be sure to post news of any screenshots that come our way.

Tequila has been very busy setting up some new tools for the development team that should help streamline our efforts to produce future updates. I'd like to say MUCHAS GRACIAS for all of his hard work! Cool

Lastly, ltmon wants to know if you live near Australia or New Zealand. The good folks from "down under" are hosting a game server & want to challenge folks from that region to a game. http://teamipx.net/
